The Loose Aquarium Bogwood by Tropix looks fantastic as an aquarium decortation, completely safe and non toxic in all coldwaters and tropicak freshwater aqaurium. It is recommended it is thoroughly soaked before placing in the aquarium.
Usually drift wood come from salt water, and becomes much more buoyant as it absorbs salt. It will sometimes rot more easily than bog wood, but if it is salt water drift wood, the salt acts as a preservative for the wood, much like the tannin does for the bog wood.
Tannins, although they can not look particularly attractive, are actually quite beneficial for fish. For this reason I would only ever recommend bogwood bought from a pet store to be lightly washed and then soaked for 48 -72 hours so that when you come to put it into the aquarium that the bogwood doesn’t float.
This process is incredibly complex, and despite great care, most of the raw wood is unsuitable for further processing. For this reason, the price of high quality raw bog wood is quite high. Due to the challenges of extraction and processing, Bog Oak is in rare supply.
Like any wood, Mopani will impart some tannins into the water after it’s submerged, so if you’re not into „the tint“, you probably want to soak it in freshwater for a week or two to „crack off“ some of the initial burst of tannins and other organics contained in the wood structure.

A minimum period of 1 to 2 weeks is recommended to allow total saturation. Soaking also allows excess tannins that can darken and discolor the water, to leach out. The discoloration caused by the tannins will not harm your aquarium inhabitants, but it will lower the pH slightly over time.
The presence of tannins is one cause of brown or yellow water that is usually not a problem. Tannins are present in driftwood, and over time they will leach into the aquarium water, staining it yellow to brown. Tannins lower the pH of the water and soften it. For some fish, this may be desirable and even recommended.

Pre-soaking driftwood in hot water for a few hours will help remove a lot of tannins before you put the wood into your aquarium. You can repeat the process several times until the wood has lost the majority of its tannins.
Tannins will leach out but the rate at which they leach out will drastically decrease the longer you boil the wood and the darker the water gets. So instead of boiling it for 35-40 minutes, boil it for 5-10 minutes, completely change the water and boil for 5-10 min again.
